Thank you for all your kind words. Dad has fought valiantly against glioblastoma for several months, and he has finally found peace. Dad was always opposed to flowers and would have preferred that you take those funds and donate them to any of the Vietnam Veterans Associations around Australia – they have done a sterling job driving him in and out of hospital at no charge – truly a deserving charity.
My condolences to you, Mark and Maree.
He was a wonderful man who helped me when my dad passed away in 1998. Although my dad had gone over to the Reserves, Neil ensured he had a military service at Jezzine Barracks as well. He escorted me there and stayed with me until it was over.
He was a great mate to my dad and work colleague, both serving together in Darwin and at JCU.

why is funeral to be in brisbane , iam a ex vietnam vet also a close friend ,neighbour ,and mate ..he told me on many a fishing trips that we did , and in our times we talked about things that concerned him and me , that he wanted to be with his departed wife lynette weekes in the townsville cementry on his passing .. hope this happens, as it would be a shame to seperate these soul mates , most of neils time was here in townsville .R.I.P mate .

RIP BRIGADIER Neil Weekes, I met you as a junior officer at 1 RAR when I hosted you in 2004. You wrote me a note afterwards thanking me for my duty. It is what you signed off with that has ever remained with me.

A true warrior and gentleman, passionate until the end.
An outstanding champion has passed on. A warrior who cared for his fellow veterans and their families.

I am the niece and goddaughter of Neil living in Perth. It is so touching and heart-warming to read the lovely messages on his sad passing. To me he was just always “Uncle Neil” – his army life was there but I didn’t really understand how large a role he played until the last few days. I am proud he touched the lives of so many people. He was a wonderful Uncle and brother to my father.
Neil Weekes was one of the most open, honest, and loyal men I ever met. We worked together for the best part of a decade when he was Executive Officer to the Vice Chancellor at JCU, and I came to know him as an utterly reliable and solid friend, a man of deep principle, and one with a wicked sense of humour. The world is a much poorer place without him.
Goodbye Neil, and thanks for everything.

I met Neil for the first time as a replacement 2nd Lt in Singapore in 1970. He is one of a few people that I have known in my life who was a gracious and supremely grounded person. He is example to all of us, that there is much we can do, should we take his example of service and continue on his behalf.
Vale Neil Weekes, exemplary infantryman. The RFSU family lose one of its commanding officers. He did his duty well. Commiserations to Neil’s wife Jo and family.
It was with great sadness that I read in this mornings Townsville Bulletin of the death of Neil Weekes. I have resided in Townsville for in excess of 30 years and had the pleasure of meeting, socializing and listening to Neil speak on numerous occasions. His contribution to the military and the citizens of Townsville is immeasurable and will be remembered well into the future. RIP Neil.
Rest in peace Neil. Neil was an honourable man. I had the great pleasure of being a junior charge of Neil’s through Neil’s time with rugby league. My thoughts are with Mark and the family.
I lunched with Neil after the ANZAC Day ceremony at Bribie Island RSL last year. My time with him was special, very convivial and uplifting. As was the man. Vale, soldier, sleep in peace.
