Veterans Race Day – Sunday 16 August

This has become a popular annual country social race day picnic event at Kilcoy. If you haven’t experienced such an event then its time to come and enjoy it. It’s free admission. Make up your own social group. This event is worthy of a position on your “bucket list”

Please note that until further advised by the Queensland Government, Covid-19 Protocols will continue to apply. And there is plenty of space for social distancing.

Rod Slater provides this information on Kilcoy Diggers (KilDigs). “It is a volunteer group of former Australian Defence Force (ADF) members and partners, who provide support to the Kilcoy Race Club (KRC) in the conduct of its major race days; Australia Day, Diggers Cup (Apr), Kilcoy Cup (Jun), Veterans Cup (Aug), Cannonball Series Final (Sep/Oct) and the Christmas Cup (Dec). KilDigs support KRC with pre-race day set up, race day duties and post-race day refurbishment. There is of course the usual obligatory “socialising” after hours. For that support KRC gives a donation of $800 which we then forward to an Ex Service Organization (ESO) or Charity Group which doesn’t receive regular income. Thus far we’ve assisted Whisky’s Wish Assistance Dogs, Ex Stone Pillow for Homeless Veterans, Young Diggers, Defence Force Welfare Assn, 8/9RAR Pipes & Drums, Buy a Bale for Farmers, Qld Country Women’s Drought Relief, 50th Anniversary Long Tan Bicycle Ride to name but a few. In addition to the donation KRC provides camping facilities – power, water, hot/cold showers, lunch on the day prior and on race day. Most of us have a motor home, caravan or camper trailer and others set up in swags or similar. We’ve also a few who help out on race day only. So, if you’re looking for something to do, don’t mind a bit of easy work, like to socialize a bit and are looking to experience the teamwork and camaraderie of your past service, we’d love to have you join us …. we even offer a “try before you buy” option”
