VIETNAM VETERANS’ DAY – 18th AUGUST 2019

Long Tan / Vietnam Veterans’ Day falls on 18 August each year. This year marks the 53rd anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan, where 108 brave young men from D Company 6RAR resisted an attack of 1,500-2,500 North Vietnamese and Viet Cong troops. It would become one of the most extraordinary chapters in Australia’s military history. Over time this day became synonymous with all those who served and died in Vietnam, and in 1987, Prime Minister Bob Hawke announced that Long Tan Day would be known as Vietnam Veterans Day.
The ceremony will be hosted by the Vietnam Veterans association WA and our President Mr Peter Heeney will MC the proceedings. There will be a march during the ceremony and all RARA WA members are invited to attend. It starts at 11am on Sunday 18 August at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Lest we forget.
